Anthony's Poison Dart Frog
Epipedobates anthonyi
Captive Bred 2025
Size: ~1cm
Sex: Unsexed
Anthony’s poison dart frog (Epipedobates anthonyi) is a small, vibrantly coloured amphibian native to the humid forests of southwestern Ecuador and north-western Peru. Known for its striking red, orange, or brown body marked with thin stripes, this species is one of the poison dart frogs historically associated with toxic skin secretions used by Indigenous peoples to tip blow darts. In captivity, however, these frogs lose their toxicity because their poisonous alkaloids come from their natural diet of certain ants and insects. Despite their tiny size, Anthony’s poison dart frogs are active, social, and vocal, often producing soft trilling calls.
Adult size: 1.5-2.5cm.
Life Span: ~6-10 years.
These are NON toxic in captivity, the toxins derive from their diet in the wild.
