Musk turtles, part of the Sternotherus genus, are small, semi-aquatic reptiles native to North America. Often called "stinkpots" due to their musky scent when disturbed, these turtles have a dark carapace with a flattened shape, aiding in maneuverability through aquatic vegetation. Typically ranging from 3 to 5 inches in length, they are carnivorous, feeding on aquatic invertebrates, fish, and carrion.
