Brachylophus fasciatus, commonly known as the Fiji banded iguana, is a strikingly colourful lizard native to the islands of Fiji and Tonga. Males are especially vivid, featuring bright green bodies with blue or whitish bands, while females are usually solid green. This arboreal species inhabits tropical forests, where it spends most of its time in trees feeding on leaves, flowers, and fruit.
The Fiji banded iguana, is extremely rare in the pet trade and is typically not kept as a pet due to strict legal protections. It is listed under Appendix I of CITES, which prohibits international trade of wild specimens except for scientific or conservation purposes. In the exotic reptile hobby, they are considered a prized species, with captive breeding becoming increasingly common.
